Sheriffs Blast Sanctuary Cities & the Corrupt Politicians that Support them
Sanctuary Cities took center stage during the Obama administration when 32-year-old Kathryn Steinle was murdered in San Francisco by an illegal alien in 2015. Since then, a number of corrupt politicians, including House Majority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, have come out to support their cities as safe havens for illegal aliens. In other words, they are very vocal about helping those who have broken the law, but they are targeting law-abiding citizens and their right to keep and bear arms. Now, two sheriffs are speaking out against sanctuary cities and the corrupt politicians that support them.
Thomas Hodgson of Bristol County, Massachusetts, and Sheriff Sam Page of Rockingham County, North Carolina sat down with NRA News investigative reporter Ginny Simone during an episode titled “A New Sheriff in Town,” and talked not only about sanctuary cities but also the dangerous mindset behind people like Pelosi and Emanuel in their support of them.
Pelosi is replayed during the trailer of the interview saying, “Our city of San Francisco is a sanctuary city, and we see it as a place where it makes us safer.”

“Nancy Pelosi, in my view, is one of the people that makes our country less safe by suggesting that sanctuary cities are somehow beneficial to improving the quality of life or protecting the citizens of our nation,” Sheriff Hodgson said. “Because those of us who have boots on the ground know.”
“We’ve processed, since 2010, 297 persons who were criminally charged illegals in our community,” said Sheriff Page. “Offenses…everything from sex offenses to drug offenses. Of those 297, about 56% have been actually removed back to their home country.”
The rest that are not deported, he didn’t know what happened to them. Who tracks them? Will they go out to re-offend? It seems to be a good possibility.
We already know that Homeland Security is asleep on the job from the story of Farzad Dastmalchi, an illegal alien from Iran who continues to work for a defense contractor despite being arrested shortly after 9/11. Homeland Security said he would be deported after his time in prison. It never happened. Read the story here, here, here and here.
“I never thought I would see in my lifetime elected officials, who are supposed to be leading and guiding our country, saying ‘I’m not going to follow the law.’ I’m going to defy the oath that I took.,” Sheriff Hodgson said. “What’s at stake is more people dying, more anarchy in our country and it’s the beginnings of eroding our democracy.”
The sheriff is correct about the first two things, but we are not a democracy. Our Constitution clearly states that it guarantees a republican form of government for the states in the union, not a democracy.
Understand, sanctuary cities are nothing like the biblical cities of refuge. For instance, a sanctuary city is a city that welcomes refugees and illegal immigrants who are knowingly violating US immigration law. The six cities of refuge mentioned in the Old Testament, Golan, Ramoth, and Bosor, on the east of the Jordan River, and Kedesh, Shechem, and Hebron on the western side, were cities that someone who may have committed manslaughter, an accidental death of another person, could flee to it to be protected from the “avenger of blood” (Deuteronomy 19:4-10). However, if the person was determined to have committed a premeditated murder, then he was to be sent for from the city of refuge and deliver into the hands of the avenger of blood to be killed as punishment for his crime (Deuteronomy 19:11-13). So, the biblical city of refuge was to protect a potentially innocent person, while today’s sanctuary cities are to protect those who are knowingly violating the law.
What’s amazing is the fact that people like Pelosi and Emanuel and those who support protecting lawbreakers want to confiscate guns and regulate the rights of law-abiding gun owners in America in open violation of the Second Amendment.
Sheriff Hodgson said, “These are the same people denying us our rights. They are also planting people in our communities that are plotting and planning.”
“You are a prime target,” he added. “We ought not put our citizens at risk by saying, ‘You can’t protect yourself’ when we know the threat is elevated to hurt them.”
“‘The right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed,'” said Sheriff Page, quoting the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. “How complex is that? Your constitutional protections don’t drop off when you cross the border from your state to another state.”
The interview pushed “national reciprocity,” which I agree with in theory. However, that implies a person gets a permit from the state in order to have reciprocity in another state. If that is put into practice at the federal level, don’t think for a moment there won’t be a national database of those with permits. It’s a bad idea. If the Second Amendment is, in fact, recognizing you have the right to keep and bear arms, and every state in the union recognizes that they are to protect that God-given right, along with all the others, then there is not need for national reciprocity. There is only a need for government, from local to central, to eliminate any and every gun law on the books. National Reciprocity is not the way your deal with those who have usurped your rights. It’s a trap set for you to fall deeper into their pit.
