Man Lawfully Open Carries AR-15 Through Atlanta Airport without Incident
So, all my freedom-loving American patriots, how would you respond if while you were walking through a major airport, you spotted a fellow American open carrying his AR-15 semi-automatic rifle? Would you be frightened? Would it bother you at all? Well, that’s just what happened at Hartsfield-Jackson International AirportĀ in Atlanta, Georgia.
WSBTV reports:
A man carrying a rifle inside theĀ Atlanta airportĀ wasn’t breaking any laws, but he did raise a few eyebrows, including those of some Atlanta police officers.
JimĀ CooleyĀ says he carried his gun through the terminal when he and his wife went to drop hisĀ daughterĀ off for her flight. He says he knew he wasn’t breaking any rules because he has a full understanding of Georgia’s gun laws.
“You can carry in unsecured areas of the airport. Past TSA, never,”Ā Cooleysaid.
That’s exactly what he did.Ā CooleyĀ carried his AR-15 fully loaded with a 100-round drum through parts of the terminal.

Of course, Mr. Cooley did not just stroll through the airport without some attention being given to him from policemen in the airport.
CooleyĀ says he was first approached by aĀ fire marshalĀ who asked him why he was carrying the gun in the airport. He was then approached by an APD officer, who asked him about the gun and whether he was permitted to carry the weapon.
“I told her I was carrying this for safety when she asked me why,”Ā Cooleyposted on Facebook.
CooleyĀ says as he and his wife began to leave the airport the APD officer stopped him again and radioed to others that he was carrying an automatic weapon.Ā CooleyĀ says he was then followed to hisĀ car byĀ a police lieutenant and two officers, who took pictures of their car.
“It shouldn’t matter what I carry, just that I choose to carry,”Ā CooleyĀ said. “You never know where something might happen.”
While this may be considered provocative by many and possibly unnecessary by others, consider the fact that people who have been gunned down by would-be mass murderers never thought they would need to have a weapon of this caliber while on a journey to the airport. However, what we do find is that many Atlanta Police Officers, who are supposed to be enforcing the law, don’t know it. Take a look:
The Second Amendment, if obeyed by government, would allow all law-abiding citizens to arm themselves and be able to protect themselves and others in public places. Some may want to argue the wisdom in Mr. Cooley’s airport stroll, but I consider it precautionary, especially in the day we live in when a gun is needed to defend someone against jihad for drawing cartoons of non-prophets.
