A Greece, N.Y., homeowner shot an alleged burglar inside of his house on Monday, April 24, 2023, preventing the suspect from attacking him during the break-in.

At about 4:30 a.m., the sleeping resident was awakened by noises that, according to police, alerted him to the possibility that someone was breaking into his house. He retrieved his firearm, when the 25-year-old suspected burglar attacked him. The homeowner fired a single shot, hitting the intruder and stopping the assault.

When police arrived later, they found the suspect inside the house with a single gunshot wound to his lower body. The 25-year-old has been charged with burglary in the first degree, assault in the second degree, criminal mischief in the second degree and petit larceny. Police also clarified that the homeowner’s actions were in defense of himself and his home. (Rochester First, Greece, N.Y., 4/24/23)

The owner of a market in Columbus, Ohio, Theodore Patsioures, pretended to follow the orders of two bandits who had entered the store and demanded money, but instead he triggered a homemade alarm system, which was wired to a doorbell in the living room of his home adjoining the store. His 63-year-old wife heard the distress signal, picked up a pistol, and ran to the scene. One of the bandits had fled when the alarm went off, but the other was still there when Mrs. Patsioures arrived. She held him at gunpoint until police took her prisoner away.
