A tow-truck driver responded to a crash involving a bus and multiple cars in Chicago, Ill., on Oct. 3. According to reports, more than a dozen people had exited their vehicles when a man in a white Dodge Durango began firing at them for unknown reasons, striking the bus driver in the leg. The tow-truck driver, who had a concealed-carry permit, ducked behind a vehicle and drew his own firearm, then returned fire. The assailant fled the scene after the armed citizen had fired two shots. The injured bus driver, whom authorities believe was not deliberately targeted, was taken to the hospital in stable condition, and no other injuries were reported.
