Virginia: Winchester Proposes Changes to Restrictions on Carry

Tonight, the Winchester City Council will consider O2022-23, to repeal a restriction on carrying firearms at public events.

Last year, the City Council passed an ordinance to ban firearms in certain public places. In it, was a prohibition on carrying firearms at permitted events and events that “would otherwise require a permit,” making it extremely difficult for law-abiding citizens to determine which areas might be, or might become, “gun-free zones.” Individuals who live in an area where an event is occurring may not enter or leave their own property with a firearm.

While this is a positive step to reduce “gun-free zones,” where law-abiding citizens are left defenseless against criminals who ignore such arbitrary boundaries, the other “gun-free zones” that Winchester created last year will still remain. Please stay tuned to www.nraila.org and your email inbox for further updates.
