Editor’s Choice: Henry Repeating Arms Long Ranger
Henry added the detachable-box-fed Long Ranger to its otherwise tube-fed catalog of lever-action rifles and shotguns back in 2016, and this year the company has introduced a new, more compact and weather-resistant variant to the series—the Long Ranger Express—that boasts a number of upgraded features.
Designed to be the ultimate multi-purpose rifle, the Express is chambered to fire the ubiquitous .223 Rem. cartridge, five rounds of which are contained within its flush-fitting steel magazine. Henry has shortened the original rifle’s barrel from 20″ to 16.5″, while also adding 1/2×28 TPI threads for the installation of a suppressor or other muzzle device.
A 12-slot section of Picatinny rail has also been added to the top of the Long Ranger’s black-anodized aluminum receiver for the convenient mounting of an optic, and the standard rifle’s American walnut buttstock and fore-end have been replaced by durable and moisture-repellent laminated birch wood.
