Biden’s World: No Firearms Training for Teachers

Joe Biden doesn’t want our children’s teachers to defend themselves or their students with firearms, even though they could very well save lives.

Biden, the Democratic Party’s nominee for president, has made his disdain for the Second Amendment and legal gun owners very clear. He actually seems proud of that disdain and, on his candidate website, lists every anti-gun action he will take if he becomes President of the United States.

One of Biden’s pledges is to: “Prohibit the use of federal funds to arm or train educators to discharge firearms.”

What’s Biden’s logic for preventing such training?

We should be passing rational gun laws, not requiring educators who already have too much on their plates to also protect the safety of their students. Biden supports barring states from using federal dollars to arm or train educators to discharge firearms,” continues the campaign’s website.

Apparently, Biden was referring to a 2018 promise made by President Donald J. Trump to provide such funding to help train teachers and other school staff in firearms safety and self-defense. But notice how he shifts from “requiring” (no one is seriously suggesting requiring teachers to do this) with “barring states” from using federal dollars to train teachers.

Like most anti-gun extremists, Biden believes that simply turning a blind eye to reality will somehow change that reality. No one, of course, wants people bent on mayhem and murder to get into our schools. Yet, the reality is these tragedies have happened, and could very well happen again. In such instances, couldn’t—if they are willing to take on this additional responsibility—armed and trained teachers provide a line of defense?

Not in Biden’s world.

Biden, it should be remembered, was a key player in pushing forward the Gun-Free School Zones Act of 1990.

Making our schools “gun-free zones,” Biden and his anti-gun compatriots argue, would make our children safer. If this were true, no-gun zones would equal no school shootings, right? Wrong.

Shootings at schools are rare, and always have been. When they do occur, however, gun-free zones simply leave the innocent victims without protection.

Actually, there’s a good deal of evidence that “gun-free” zones may be more attractive to violent criminals. According to data gathered by the Crime Prevention Research Center, a staggering 94% of mass public shootings have happened in “gun-free” zones since 1950.

Is that a coincidence? Unlikely.

And an increasing number of school districts have determined, that statistic is not mere happenstance. This is why these districts are looking to add another level of security to their facilities by offering their teachers the opportunity to take firearms-safety and self-defense training, and allowing them to have access to firearms while on school property.

As America’s 1st Freedom recently reported: “Rural schools appear especially keen to arm teachers, which isn’t surprising given that the long distances between the schools and law-enforcement staff can make police response times longer than the national average. As originally reported by The Blade newspaper, Michigan’s Addison Community Schools is ‘a single building in rural southeast Michigan that contains three grade schools for fewer than 1,000 students…. In the past, it’s taken sheriff’s deputies patrolling a sprawling county a half an hour or longer to get to [the school].’”

It may not be on the job description, but simply by being the adult at the head of the class, teachers are by default a first responder of sorts should some calamitous event take place. Unfortunately, that logic doesn’t register in Biden’s world.
