Springfield Armory has partnered with H.S. Produkt of Croatia to bring U.S. shooters an unusual entrant into the rarified world of bullpup rifles: The Hellion is a 922R-compliant, semi-automatic version of the Croatian VHS-2 service rifle chambered in 5.56 NATO.

The 28.25″-long Hellion features a 16″ hammer-forged barrel rifled with a 1:7″ twist and accepts AR-pattern magazines and AR-style pistol grips. A two-position adjustable gas block offers Suppressed and Normal modes. Multiple sling points on each side accommodate push-button-style swivels, and the fore-end offers M-Lok slots for the mounting of lights and other accessories.

Other features include: a centrally located magazine and bolt release; adjustable, pop-up metallic sights; a spring-loaded, five-position adjustable buttstock; and mirrored ejection ports. A centrally located charging handle and a reversible bolt head allow the rifle to be set up for true right- or left-hand operation in minutes without the use of tools.
