First Look: Anderson AM-15 Chambered in .350 Legend
Anderson Manufacturing of Hebron, KY, is expanding its AM-15 Precision Series lineup of semi-automatic AR-15 pattern rifles and carbines with two new rifles chambered for the modern .350 Legend cartridge. These new rifles are the Sharpshooter with a 20-inch barrel and the Marksman, with an 18-inch barrel.
The .350 Legend cartridge made its first debut at the annual 2019 SHOT (Shooting Hunting and Outdoor Trade show). Winchester created the .350 Legend in order to push a .357-inch diameter bullet with the most velocity possible using a straight-walled cartridge casing that could fit in an AR-15 pattern action. These specific design considerations stem from certain states’ hunting requirements for deer hunting with straight-walled rifle cartridges of a certain bullet diameter, creating what Winchester says is the “world’s fastest straight-walled cartridge.”
Both the AM-15 Sharpshooter and Marksman models operate on a direct impingement, carbine-length gas system using an Anderson Low-Profile Steel Gas Block. They are also outfitted with a Magpul PRS Lite stock in addition to a K2 pistol grip that is slightly more vertical than the original AR-15 style A1 or A2 pistol grips. These new models also come equipped with Anderson Manufacturing’s 15-inch T6 lightweight aluminum M-Lok handguard, along with a Schmid 4.5-pound, two-stage trigger to aid in accuracy.
