First Look: Howa 6.5 PRC Carbon Elevate Rifle

Pinterest WhatsApp

Howa’s new 6.5 PRC bolt-action-rifle line, the Carbon Elevate, is a lightweight, bolt-action rifle with a 24-inch, carbon-fiber-wrapped barrel. The whole rifle weighs less than 7 pounds, making it ideal for big game hunters who track their pray in mountain highlands or anyone who shoots where lightweight gear is crucial for success. Currently there are two variants available under the Carbon Elevate line: the Howa Carbon Elevate, with Kryptek Altitude camouflage, or the Carbon Black model that gives you a sleek “carbon on carbon” look.

The new Carbon Elevate is based on Howa’s legendary Howa 1500 action that has helped define the brand for several decades and continues to be one of the go-to rifle actions in Japan. Wrapping the steel inner core of a rifle barrel with carbon-fiber outer layers makes them lighter and deliver strength and accuracy that can exceed an all-steel barrel. The Howa Carbon Elevate series includes a Stocky’s carbon-fiber stock that comes equipped with a Limbsaver recoil butt pad and Howa’s famous Accublock lug bed to aid in accuracy, as the action makes contact with the stock. The Carbon Elevate line is also available in a short action model that is chambered in either 6.5 Creedmoor or .308 Win. or a mini action model that uses 6.5 Grendel.
