First Look: Kimber KDS9c Pistol
Kimber has just released the new KDS9c handgun, a new 1911-pattern double-stack 9mm handgun with a 15-round magazine that is optimized for personal protection and EDC (everyday carry). Although this new pistol works off the same action as the classic 1911 pistol and uses a higher capacity double-stack magazine, the new Kimber KDS9c gun is also different from other “2011 style” double-stack 1911s.
Since the new Kimber was engineered with personal protection in mind, it uses an aluminum alloy frame instead of a steel frame to keep the gun’s overall weight more manageable. Besides having a size and weight that are beneficial for personal carry, the KDS9c is also ready to mount optics. Kimber includes three different optics mounting plates in the box that are compatible with slide-mounted, electronic red dot sights from Trijicon, Holosun and Vortex. Outfitted with a 4-inch barrel that has a slower 1:10-inch barrel twist, the KDS9c should have no problem stabilizing heavier-caliber projectiles.
