Nightforce Optics has just added an MRAD (milliradian) based reticle, their signature Mil-XT reticle, as an option for the first focal plane scopes in their SHV riflescope lineup. The SHV (Shooter Hunter Varminter) is one of Nightforce’s classic original product lines with scopes that are meant for sport and field use, compared to other scopes made by Nightforce that are better suited for tactical applications. SHV scopes are typically lighter in weight and have simpler reticles and with the new Nightforce SHV 4-14x50mm C694 first focal plane model, shooters have the option of making shots with an MRAD based grid reticle while still maintaining the lighter profile of a field scope.

The Mil-XT reticle has a network of subtensions and stadia lines with holdover points that are intuitive to use. Like most other reticles, most points are spaced apart by 0.2 MRADs to provide precise points and make corrections on the fly much easier. The Mil-XT reticle was originally designed for tactical and competitive shooters but its usefulness can also extend to other shooters too, especially those who don’t do much dialing.
