First Look: Norma Xtreme LR 22LR Ammunition
Norma Precision Inc, the Scandinavian ammunition company based out of Sweden, is unveiling a new match-grade .22 LR rimfire cartridge best suited for longer-distance, precision-rimfire shooting.
Norma Precision’s new long-distance rimfire cartridge incorporates a 43-grain lead boattail bullet. Due to the design and constraints of rimfire ammunition, incorporating boattails in the rear of rimfire projectiles can be challenging, and as such this ammunition usually always features a flat base. Unfortunately, bullets with flat bases are not as aerodynamic so their effective distances are typically shorter than bullets of a sleeker design. Norma Precision set out to solve this problem by adding a boat tail while still maintaining the integrity of the bullet itself.
“At Norma, we recognize the ever growing popularity of serious and precise rimfire shooting and competition. Our development of the Xtreme LR 22 rimfire cartridge is part of our response to further contribute to these extremely popular shooting disciplines,” say Mike Oslizlo, Product Manager for Centerfire and Rimfire Ammunition at Norma Precision, Inc. He adds, “With these new efficient bullets, we’re seeing very good results at distances further than what rimfire shooters are normally used to shooting at.”

With standard match rimfire ammunition fired from precision rifles, the effective distance usually ends at 300 to 400 yards, but with Norma’s new Xtreme LR 22 load, the company has done accuracy testing with effective impacts out to a distance of 600 yards with precision rimfire rifles equipped with 20-inch barrels.
