FN America has announced a safety bulletin for its FN 502 Tactical .22 LR pistol. The company has become aware that a very limited number of FN 502 Tactical pistols in the field may have an improperly installed manual safety. In these cases, the external safety lever will not function as designed and may result in unintended firing.

Owners of FN 502 Tactical pistols should suspend their use immediately and, observing all the rules of firearm safety, perform a function check to determine if the manual safety on the pistol is operating properly. The company has posted a function check guide online that breaks down the procedure. Experienced owners are encouraged to refer to the web page for more details on the safety bulletin and a short review on the steps to determine if the pistol needs to be returned for service.

Anyone who would prefer to have FN inspect their pistol can contact FN customer service at (800) 635-1321, Ext. 145. A local firearms dealer or gunsmith can also handle the inspection.

This safety bulletin applies to FN 502 Tactical pistols with a serial number range lower than LR007999. Handguns with serial number above this range are not subject to this safety bulletin.

Do not ship any affected FN 502 Tactical back to FN until the company has generated and sent a return label. Upon receipt of the gun, FN America will check for proper function and assembly, and if necessary, retrofit the pistol before returning it to the owner. Every attempt will be made to return the handgun in 14 days.
