HAVA Expands with a Pacific Northwest Range Event
Honored American Veterans Afield (HAVA) hosted its Inaugural Pacific Northwest Range Day at the Tacoma (WA) Sportsmen’s Club last weekend. The event brought nearly 75 veterans together for a day of shooting, comradery and prizes. The organization worked with Tacoma Sportsmen’s Club President Mac Taylor to provide disabled veterans and wounded active-duty military guests with an experience that included trap shooting, primitive archery, sling shot, long-range rifle, red-dot pistol and a Genesis tactical shotgun stage hosted by VerTac Training.
The event spanned three days with a different group of guests each day. Each received a goodie bag with swag, followed by an introduction to shooting primitive slingshot and lunch. Afterward attendees then hit the firing line, where they received instruction from HAVA’s expert staff.
“Coming to a new range and a new area can be challenging,” said Chris Fleming, event co-lead and firearm instructor for HAVA. “Our staff, comprised of industry professionals and expert instructors, never disappoint. They are truly there for the selfless task of serving those who have served and are still serving us on the front lines…we will be back to visit the folks in the Pacific Northwest. They are true warriors, and their honor and character were unmatched. Thank you for showing up and giving us the opportunity to spoil you for all you have done for us.”

“I didn’t know how much I needed this experience,” one of the veterans noted. “The HAVA staff enabled me to reconnect and do what I truly enjoy, shooting awesome firearms and connecting with my fellow veterans. I can’t wait until next year!”
After the event attendees were treated to a music performance from HAVA Firearms Instructor Hunter Sharp, who traveled from southern Illinois to work with participants on the rifle range. “Stories were shared and smiles worn with pride,” he said. “It was an honor to participate in this range day with our guests, as their sacrifices have meant so much to me, and to our nation.”
