While the .40 S&W cartridge isn’t the popular option it was several decades ago, it still remains a go-to choice for many of today’s shooters who can handle and appreciate the added power of the chambering. For those folks, Stoeger has released its STR-40, an affordable, polymer-frame, striker-fired handgun loaded with features.

Similar to previous offerings from Stoeger in its 9 mm Luger-chambered lineup, the Stoeger STR-40 is built on a mid-size polymer frame and features a 4.17″ barrel. The design incorporates a loaded chamber indicator, internal safeties and a reversible magazine release, as well as a three-dot sighting system.

The nitride-treated slide features cocking serrations at the front and rear, and the ergonomic grip frame features finger grooves along the front strap, as well as an interchangeable backstrap. A model of the STR-40 is available with a milled slide, making it compatible with today’s micro red-dot optics. Four cover plates ship with each pistol.

Other features of the gun include a Picatinny accessory rail, bladed trigger safety, and beveled muzzle to ease reholstering.
