Pennsylvania: Governor Tom Wolf Vetoes Constitutional Carry
Anti-gun Democrat Governor Tom Wolf kept his promise and vetoed Senate Bill 565 on Thursday. The bill would have ensured that citizens are able to exercise their right to self-defense without government red tape or delays. It would not have affected previously issued carry permits, and would have allowed citizens who still wish to obtain a permit in order to carry in other states recognizing Pennsylvania permits, to do so. Twenty-one states currently have permitless carry.
As we enjoy the final days of 2021 and roll into an important new year, this week’s action underscores the importance of having a pro-Second Amendment Governor in the Keystone State. This was an important step forward, clearing the Legislature and refining bill language. This will be helpful when we reengage on this issue after Pennsylvanians elect a pro-Second Amendment Governor.
We would like to thank the following individuals who worked tirelessly on this issue this session: Senate Majority Leader Kim Ward, House Majority Leader Kerry Benninghoff, Senate Judiciary Chair Lisa Baker, House Judiciary Chair Rob Kaufman, Senate Bill sponsor Cris Dush and House Bill sponsor Aaron Bernstine. Finally, we would also like to thank all of the NRA members who took the time to call and email their legislators. As always, your activism made a difference!
