Threaded-barreled, “tactical” lever guns are experiencing a boom in popularity right now, and Ranger Point Precision (RPP) has a line of screw-on Comet muzzle brakes to accommodate many of the most popular models from Henry, Marlin and Rossi.

The Comet muzzle brake is made from 4140 steel an machined to measure 1.65″ long (with roughly 1″ overhanging the barrel), which will nominally increase a carbine or rifle’s weight–the Comet adds just 1.3 ozs. to host gun’s overall weight. RPP applies a  treatment to the 4140 steel brake, through salt-bath nitriding that not only increases surface hardness, the process renders a matte-black finish on the steel device while providing superior corrosion resistance, which makes for easier cleaning, too.

The RPP Comet does its job through a series of vents that are placed around the unit’s entire circumference. These vents join to disperse expanding propellant gasses and mitigate felt recoil. Each accessory has been designed to closely match the outer diameter (and thread pitch) of its host gun’s barrel, resulting in a sleek, flush-fitting presentation.

For $125 and $130 for Rossi and Henry/Marlin models, respectively, RPP’s Comet for lever-action carbines and rifles installs easily in just minutes, giving users a modern accessory that effectively reduces felt recoil and muzzle rise of classic firearm designs of yesteryear.
