A 22-year-old alleged assailant is dead after threatening an armed citizen’s child at a Yakima, Wash., dog park on Feb. 5, 2023.
At 1:30 p.m. that Sunday, the 28-year-old father was walking through the park with his child when the 22-year-old suspect approached the man and allegedly threatened the child’s life. The father told the stranger to leave him and his child alone and attempted to leave the park. When the assailant refused to leave the two alone, the father took out his handgun and shot the suspect.

The 22-year-old assailant was pronounced dead at the scene after officers arrived. Witnesses at the scene corroborated the young father’s story, and the Yakima Police Department said it had received several calls of a “man acting out of control” and that the armed citizen acted in self-defense. A stickup man had been plaguing convenience stores in the Salisbury, Md., area, so when Robert Brown saw a man fitting the robber’s description approaching his store, he reached for a gun.
