A Troup County, Ga., woman defended herself when an alleged intruder made his way inside her home on Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2022.
Around 2 a.m., a 36-year-old man entered the woman’s home and went unnoticed until she heard an unfamiliar voice in the hallway. At home with her two children, the homeowner armed herself and went to confront the intruder. When she encountered him, she fired a single round, which struck the man in the lower abdomen. This caused him to flee from the home, after which he ran to a neighbor’s house for help.

When authorities arrived and investigated the incident, the found that the intruder had burglarized at least four parked cars in the area as well. In regard’s to the homeowner’s use of her firearm in self-defense, Sgt. Stewart Smith of the Troup County Sheriff’s Office said, “You certainly have the right to have a gun in your home, the right to have gun on your person, the right to have gun in your car. After four burglaries had stripped his Stockton, Calif., church of most of its valuables, the Rev. John Folmer decided to stand guard nights with his shotgun. When a burglar tripped over some chairs, the 69-year-old minister confronted the intruder and ordered him to lie on the floor while he telephoned police. Authorities said the suspect would be charged with attempted burglary. (The Bee, Sacramento, Calif.)
