A 37-year-old Kansas man who was out on parole for robbery and assault with a deadly weapon is now in a hospital after being shot by a homeowner whose house he attempted to rob.
At 3 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2024, Butler County, Mo., police responded to a call that a man had been shot in a Qulin, Mo., residence. Upon arrival, they discovered the robbery suspect had been shot five times by the homeowner after attempting to break into the home.

The suspect faces charges of first-degree burglary, and Butler County Sheriff Mark Dobbs clarified that the homeowner was not charged, as he acted under Missouri’s self-defense laws. (KWOC News; Qulin, Mo.; 1/13/24)

Houston, Texas, liquor store owner Sidney Scalise found himself looking down the barrel of a .22-cal. pistol as he was ordered by one of two men to hand over the money. Scalise gave the armed bandit $60 from the register and $25 from his own wallet.
As the men ran from the store, Scalise picked up a .45 he kept under a cover on the counter. As the thugs reached the corner, Scalise leaned out of the shop door and took aim. One of the bandits brought his gun up and aimed toward Scalise, and Scalise fired at him four times, dropping the man with a critical wound in the temple. Both were escaped convicts. (Houston Press)
