A man driving his car in Chicago, Ill., defended himself when an alleged carjacker opened fire on him on Monday, Aug. 22, 2022.
The man was sitting inside his car in the West Side of the city sometime after 1 a.m. that morning, when another man approached and opened fire. The driver, a concealed-carry license holder who was also armed at the time, then produced his own firearm and began to return fire.

The two entered a brief exchange of gunfire, during which the driver’s aim proved to be true, striking the would-be carjacker in the chest, ending the firefight. When police arrived, they discovered the stricken aggressor, along with the gun he used, and he was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in critical condition. Despite Lily Lockman’s barred door and burglar alarm in her San Antonio, Texas, home, the 46-year-old woman woke to find a man trying to get inside. Getting her .38-cal. revolver, Lockman warned the man she was armed and would shoot. When the intruder rushed the door and knocked the homeowner down, Lockman opened fire, wounding her assailant. A police detective said, “There’s no doubt about it. That gun probably saved her life.” (The Express-News, San Antonio, Texas)
