An Amazon delivery driver in Middletown, Ohio, defended himself when he was allegedly targeted by a knife-wielding stranger on Aug. 7, 2022. The driver was making his usual rounds that Sunday when a man approached him, knife in hand. Upon seeing the stranger approaching with the weapon, the driver feared for his safety and drew a firearm he had on his person. As stated by Middletown police chief David Birk, in regards to the delivery driver during the incident: “He was able to discharge a firearm, striking the individual in the leg.”

Afterwards, the would-be attacker fled the scene before being discovered by police a short time later. Authorities took the wounded suspect to a local hospital, where, while police were investigating the nature of the incident, the man walked out of the hospital. Chief Birk added that: “Him walking away from the hospital kind of helped clarify the situation that the Amazon delivery driver was just defending himself.” Police also stated that the suspect was found to be under the influence of drugs at the time of the incident. When a stranger trying the doorknob on Billie Carter’s Riverside, Calif., home suddenly screamed and began battering down the door, the 41-year-old housewife knew what to do and ran to her bedroom to get a handgun her husband had bought for home protection. Returning to find the door smashed open, Carter fired once. The wounded suspect, a former convict, was being sought by police on two outstanding warrants. He was arrested on suspicion of burglary.
