Looking for a new watch while you clean your gun collection? Kick back and relax by watching these top “gun guy” movies. I went with more recent titles released in the past decade to try and keep things fresh. They’re packed with action and filled with some awesome firepower, these are films every firearm enthusiast can love.

The Equalizer Series

With the first installment coming in right under the decade deadline, The Equalizer follows a former Special Forces commando, Robert McCall, who faked his own death to live out a quiet life only to be pulled back in the path of justice after rescuing a young girl from a Russian gang. The rest of the series he becomes the go-to for the helpless looking for vengeance.

McCall uses a Springfield XD as his sidearm throughout the film. We see him take the striker-fired pistol off Andri who drew it on him. Before the disarming, McCall asks if the pistol is a Heckler & Koch.

Additionally, we see McCall wield an Sa vz. 61 Skorpion .32 ACP subgun that he takes from one of the henchmen. In classic action movie fashion, we get a peak at his weapons cache where we see a suppressed Glock 26 and a sawn-off pump shotgun among a number of other assorted firearms. However, these don’t make their way into the rest of the movie.

The Gray Man

When a highly skilled CIA operative discovers dark company secrets, he must defend himself against a worldwide manhunt set forth by his former associates. The Gray Man follows Sierra Six as he fights to uncover the truth. The movie is packed with a ton of action and even more firearms.

If ever there’s a way to open an action movie, it’s with an integrally suppressed firearm that can shoot around corners. In the beginning of the film, Six uses a Silencerco Maxim 9 placed in a Corner Shot as he attempts to take out his target. This is an interesting setup, as the base firearm, the Silencerco Maxim 9, features a built-in modular suppressor that can be configured to different noise reduction levels and lengths. When placed in a Corner Shot, a device designed to allow the gun to bend around a corner as you pull the trigger and operate the firearm from cover, this becomes a setup that’s hard to beat.

Suicide Squad

Suicide Squad is not your typical superhero movie; instead it focuses on the “bad guys.” There aren’t many great powers and I’ll be honest, the plot isn’t fantastic. However, one of our villains is specifically centered around his incredible firearm use. Simply put, Deadshot doesn’t miss.

Additionally, he is shown using a number of iconic firearms and we get a good look at them all in his opening sequence. His primary handgun is a Glock 17 that has been customized by ZevTech and outfitted with a Trijicon RMR red dot sight. A flared magwell and muzzle compensator make for some fast shooting and rapid reloads. Deadshot also carries two full-auto Glock 18s in small of the back holsters and has custom wrist guns mounted on his suit.

Another favorite character, Harley Quinn, uses a custom Chiappa Rhino revolver. The 6-inch barrel .357 Magnum features a low-mounted barrel and fires from the bottom cylinder to lower the bore axis, which reduces felt recoil and speeds up follow-up shots.

Wrath of Man

Wrath of Man is probably my favorite Jason Statham movie, and one of my favorite action movies in general. A great plot and nice twist are complemented by some impressive guns and firearm handling. Statham plays a guard, “H,” protecting armored trucks and, of course, must take care of some business along the way. His main sidearm throughout the movie is a Glock 19 that he is issued after joining the company and we see him use it to great effect.

Additionally, the armored truck center features an impressive armory. As such, there were several great guns used in the film, but my favorite was the HK G36K, which several of the guards use. This 5.56 NATO rifle incorporates the noticeable carry handle/optical sight combo that makes it stand out in a crowd. Additionally, the G36K comes fitted with a side-folding stock and three-lug adapter for suppressor use. This is a true professional’s weapon designed for serious use.

The Purge: Anarchy

The Purge series depicts a dystopian future where all crime is legal on one day a year. After a flat tire throws a hiccup in their plans, Anarchy shows what happens when regular people get caught outside unprepared. After receiving help from a mysterious stranger (Leo), a small group must band together to survive the night.

There are several interesting guns used throughout the film, including an HK USP used as the sidearm for Leo. The USP design was originally made for U.S. SOCOM and is one of the most bomb-proof durable handguns on the planet. Additionally, Leo uses an AKMSU, a short-barreled AK-47 variant rifle, as his primary weapon. The 7.62×39 SBR is fully automatic and features a railed handguard for mounting accessories.

One of the major antagonists in the film uses a Gatling Gun mounted in the back of a truck to cause ruination. It makes for some destructive spray and pray scenes very much in the theme of the movie.

Anna

Anna follows the story of a young KGB assassin who’s stunning looks are only outweighed by her adept combat ability. However, after serving her contracted years, the agency refuses her retirement and she is forced to take matters into her own hands.

Given the setting, we get to see some neat Soviet weaponry. In her first mission, Anna is tested with a Tokarev TT-33, which she has been provided to carry out an assassination only to find it unloaded. She is quickly forced to improvise and use it as a melee weapon to carry out the assignment.

Further, we see the Makarov PM make several appearances. Anna uses a suppressed model for most of her assignments. This classic Soviet 9×18 is a fitting sidearm for a KGB agent, and is used by multiple characters throughout the film.

Of course, a CZ 75B made its way on screen. The full-size 9mm is used by fellow KGB agent and Anna’s handler, Alex. Additionally, a customized version with wood grips is seen in the KGB director’s desk.

John Wick Series

I have written on this incredible series in the past, but I would be remiss if I did not mention one of the best modern action movie franchises in the past decade. The John Wick series is packed with awesome guns and impressive firearm handling. Keanu Reeves trained with competitive shooter and instructor Taran Butler of Taran Tactical Innovations (TTI), so the operation and handling is on point.

The healthy budget allowed for tons of eye-catching firearms, including several customized by the TTI boutique, including a Glock 34, Glock 26, and TTI Combat Masterpiece 2011. However, he starts his journey in the first movie mainly using two HK P30Ls fitted with compensators. The P30 platform is an incredibly durable and reliable double-action/single-action design used by military and law enforcement units. The longslide variant used here allows for a longer sight radius and slight ballistic advantage.
