Winchester Awarded U.S. Army Pistol Ammo Contract
U.S. Army Contracting Command awarded Winchester a pistol-ammunition contract this month with a potential value of $145 million. The cartridges will be produced at the company’s facilities located in Oxford, MS, and East Alton, IL.
“The Winchester workforce is extremely dedicated to providing high-quality ammunition for the U.S. Warfighter,” said Brett Flaugher, president of Winchester Ammunition. “We will continue to work extremely hard to provide the support required from our U.S. military.”
Calibers that will be manufactured by the company under terms of the agreement include .38 Special, 9mm and .45 ACP. Winchester is the largest supplier of small-caliber ammunition to the U.S. military, and this five-year contract underscores its position as the leading supplier of pistol ammunition to the U.S. military.

The firm’s U.S. military-related efforts are not limited to manufacturing and delivering handgun cartridges, either. Late last year Winchester was awarded a $13 million contract to develop manufacturing processes for the 7.62 NATO cartridge at the government-owned Lake City Army Ammunition Plant, which is located in Independence, MO, and managed under contract by Winchester. It also received a $37 million agreement to produce 5.56 NATO, 7.62 NATO and .50 BMG cartridges for the U.S. Army earlier in 2021.
The proven performance and reliability of Winchester ammunition also makes it a popular choice among law enforcement agencies nationwide. Winchester-made169-grain Sierra bottail hollowpoint .308 Win. loads, for example, were selected as the sole source for issue to SWAT teams in the FBI in August 2021.
