Yet Another State is on the Cusp of Constitutional Carry

With Florida’s passage of constitutional carry earlier this month, more than half of the states now have some form of constitutional carry on the books, but the momentum isn’t stopping. Nebraska lawmakers recently passed a version of constitutional carry.

Nebraska’s legislature, which is comprised of a single chamber, recently voted 33 to 14 to send L.B. 77 to Gov. Jim Pillen’s (R) desk. In addition to getting out of the way of law-abiding citizens’ ability to exercise their Second Amendment rights, “L.B. 77 also strengthens preemption, giving the state legislature sole authority to regulate firearms. This prevents Nebraska counties and municipalities from having a patchwork of confusing and conflicting local laws throughout the state,” as reported by the NRA Institute for Legislative Action.

Should Pillen sign it into law, as he has previously indicated is his intent, Nebraska will become the 27th state to have passed constitutional carry. This is an incredible achievement considering, just a few decades ago, only one state had constitutional carry. More recently, nearly a dozen states have joined the ranks in just the past few years.

“State-by-state, NRA is working to eliminate overly burdensome carry requirements that have put restrictions on law-abiding Americans for far too long. Nebraska is the latest state to recognize law-abiding citizens are not the problem—criminals are,” said Travis Couture-Lovelady, Nebraska state director for the NRA.

Opponents of this growing movement, such as anti-gun lawmakers and much of the mainstream media, peddle false narratives in their quest to disarm law-abiding Americans and deprive them of this constitutional right. America’s 1st Freedom recently broke down in great detail the 10 things that these anti-gun types don’t want you to know when it comes to exercising American Freedom.

Chief amongst these falsehoods is the claim that constitutional carry will lead to states becoming more like the “Wild West.”

“[T]he relationship between constitutional-carry laws and homicide was negative, which is the opposite of what gun-control activists have predicted. Constitutional carry makes it possible for all lawful citizens—rich or poor, regardless of race or any other demographic—to protect themselves without undue burden. The only people in more danger in constitutional-carry states are criminals,” wrote America’s 1st Freedom contributor Mark Chesnut.
