The story of Federal Ammunition began in 1922, when Charles L. Horn took control of a three-year-old fledgling ammunition manufacturer. Knowing he faced fierce competition from other well-established ammo companies, he embarked on a novel strategy. Horn worked to get Federal products—which at the time consisted only of shotshells produced in a 9,000-square-foot factory—onto the shelves of barber shops, gas stations and grocery stores. He also established a contract to sell Federal Ammunition through Montgomery Ward & Co. and Sears stores.

The Federal Ammunition factory in Anoka, MN, is now a 700,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility where 1,400 employees work in three shifts, 24/7, to produce millions of rounds of centerfire, rimfire and shotshell ammo per day. The plant runs around the clock, seven days a week in an operation founder Charles L. Horn would probably never recognize.

Nighthawk Custom built a limited edition of pistols to celebrate Federal Ammunition’s 100th anniversary. Only 100 of these beautiful pistols were built, and now a small number of these pistols are available to the public.

The pistol is a classic 5-inch barrel 1911 design, chambered in .45 ACP, which has been completely hand fit, prepped, and blended by a single gunsmith. The pistol features engraving with polished flats and a Black DLC finish, which give it that classic charcoal blued look but with extreme durability. The diamond walnut grips and 14K gold bead front sight set this pistol apart. Each pistol comes with a custom engraved walnut display box that celebrates Federal’s 100th Anniversary, 1922-2022.

The package includes the Limited Edition 1911 pistol, custom walnut display box, the Federal 100th anniversary challenge coin, and two custom Federal laser engraved magazines.

The pistols are numbered 1 of 100 thru 100 of 100. For more information on this pistol or other products from Nighthawk Customs, please visit nighthawkcustom.com.
