Guns Won’t Be Allowed At President Trump’s NRA Speech

It’s almost funny, if it were not so sad, but it looks like if you are going to be attending the National Rifle Association’s annual conference on Friday in Atlanta and want to be in the same area as President Donald Trump when he gives his speech, you’ll have to leave your guns at home.  Oh, the irony.

Apparently, DC came up with a law that not only infringes on the Second Amendment, but even state laws that recognize open carry, which is also supposed to be protected under the Second Amendment.

Secret Service is illegally authorized to keep guns out of site and venues where protected persons are attending.  Do I hear echoes of Animal Farm, anyone?

In a statement to CNN, the Secret Service said,

“The Secret Service works closely with our local law enforcement partners in each state to ensure a safe environment for our protectees and the public.  Individuals determined to be carrying firearms will not be allowed past a predetermined outer perimeter checkpoint, regardless of whether they possess a ticket to the event.”
The NRA’s website acknowledges these laws that infringe on the people’s rights to keep and bear arms.
“During the 2017 NRA Annual Meetings & Exhibits, lawfully carried firearms will be permitted in the Georgia World Congress Center and the Omni Atlanta Hotel at CNN Center in accordance with Georgia law,” the NRA’s website reads. “However, firearms are not allowed in the remainder of the CNN Center, including the food court and shops. When carrying your firearm, remember to follow all federal, state and local laws.”
While such things are commonplace now that people have grown accustomed to them, they were not always so.  For decades people could carry arms wherever they went because it was a recognized God-given right, not something for which you had to ask permission or pay a fee to obtain.
If you are one that says, “Well, this is just common sense,” then don’t be surprised when you fully embrace the criminal mindset of politicians in this country and add to that “common sense gun control.”
However, make no mistake that the Secret Service is acting unconstitutionally in this action.  If they wanted to be constitutional, they would simply put a piece of bulletproof glass in front of Trump rather than infringe on the rights of law-abiding gun owners.
As a final thought, I mentioned Animal Farm at the beginning.  Considering that “protected persons” seems to be another class of people, I wonder if this line from George Orwell‘s novel puts some perspective on this issue.

All animals are equal, but some animals are moreequal than others definition.

In a quote attributed to President George Washington in The American Wisdom Series presents Pamphlet #230, “President George Washington’s Thoughts on Firearms,” Washington allegedly said:

“When a nation mistrusts its citizens with guns it is it sending a clear message. It no longer trusts its citizens because such a government has evil plans.”
