Hollywood Star Vince Vaughn: “I Support People Having a Gun in Public Full Stop”

Yet another reason conservatives should love self-described libertarian actor Vince Vaughn – he’s a staunch defender of the 2nd Amendment. In a recent interview with the British version of GQ Magazine, Vaughn allowed himself to get all political, risking his future job offers and his popularity back in Hollywood. While Vaughn has long been outspoken about his libertarian beliefs (as are a few other actors – Clint Eastwood, Drew Carey, Penn Gillette most famously) and his support for Ron Paul, he has generally shied away from specifics about his beliefs. Apparently, he’s not shying away from anything anymore…

When asked by GQ about our 2nd Amendment liberty (remember in the UK owning a gun is super-illegal):

“I support people having a gun in public full stop, not just in your home. We don’t have the right to bear arms because of burglars; we have the right to bear arms to resist the supreme power of a corrupt and abusive government. It’s not about duck hunting; it’s about the ability of the individual. It’s the same reason we have freedom of speech. It’s well known that the greatest defense against an intruder is the sound of a gun hammer being pulled back. All these gun shootings that have gone down in America since 1950, only one or maybe two have happened in non-gun-free zones. Take mass shootings. They’ve only happened in places that don’t allow guns. These people are sick in the head and are going to kill innocent people. They are looking to slaughter defenseless human beings. They do not want confrontation. In all of our schools it is illegal to have guns on campus, so again and again these guys go and shoot up these f***ing schools because they know there are no guns there. They are monsters killing six-year-olds.”

Vaughn was also very clear on his belief that all American schools should be well armed in case anything should go awry – when asked if guns should be allowed in schools he answered:

“Of course. You think the politicians that run my country and your country don’t have guns in the schools their kids go to? They do. And we should be allowed the same rights. Banning guns is like banning forks in an attempt to stop making people fat. Taking away guns, taking away drugs, the booze, it won’t rid the world of criminality.”

I told you I’d give you another reason to love Vince Vaughn. How about a cogent, logical and passionate defense of the 2nd Amendment and the right for every American to be able to defend himself, his family and his property? Vaughn is completely correct. The 2nd Amendment exists not for hunting or for home defense, but for defense against an overreaching and corrupt government. He’s also accurate on the role of “Gun Free Zones” in mass shootings; over the last 5 years or so, 92% of mass shootings took place in gun-free zones. Coincidence? I don’t think so.

So thank you, Vince Vaughn, for being intelligent and eloquent enough to defend the 2nd Amendment in a public forum and for being an excellent representative of the pro-2nd Amendment crowd.
