IWI’s Jericho 941: Alive And Well

The Jericho 941has been commercially available in the United States since 1990 and it continues to be a top choice among enthusiasts. There’ are good reasons, too. Its locked-breech, short-recoil system of operation is based on that of the time-proven CZ75. The pistol is also a product of Israel Weapon Industries (IWI), which has a reputation for producing the kind of high-quality firearms law enforcement and militaries rely upon across the globe.

K.B.I. Inc. was the first to import the semi-automatic Jericho 941s stateside, but the company dissolved in early 2010. The demand was obvious, though, so Mossberg entered into an agreement with IWI and marketed it as the Uzi Eagle. Magnum Research later gained the rights and labeled it as the BabyEagle.

In 2013, IWI US—a subsidiary of IWI—was established in Harrisburg, Pa. The then-new company consolidated all importation and distribution under its roof and released a long list of very successful guns to the American market. The reception from enthusiasts was so warm, in fact, that IWI US had to move to Middletown, PA, in 2018, where a larger facility allowed it to increase manufacturing and warehousing capacity.

There are two models of the Jericho 941 available today, both chambered in mm Luger. They have a manual safety that enables the hammer to rest in “condition one” for carry purposes, but they can also run in traditional double-action/single action (hammer down) fashion. An integral Picatinny-style rail on the dustcover allows mounting of weaponlights or lasers. Frames are steel, finish is black and the guns feature adjustable dovetailed sights. Barrels are cold-hammer forged from CrMoV steel and rifling is polygonal, twisted right at a rate of 1:10″. Each of the pistols come with two magazines and the option of selecting lower-capacity versions for more restrictive regions.

The Jericho 941 F9 is the full-size model, with a 4.4″ barrel, 16-round capacity magazines and overall length of 8.2″. It weights 36.8 ozs. and carries an MSRP of $655. A mid-size option is also available, the Jericho 941 FS9. Its barrel is 3.8″ long and the pistol weighs 31.2 ozs. Magazine capacity remains at 16 cartridges, overall length drops to 7.6″ and MSRP is also $655.
