It is one of the world’s most recognized designs, and it remains the basis for some bolt-action rifles even today. The Mauser 98 story, detailed by Editor In Chief Brian Sheetz, now spans 125 years, and in celebration of that milestone, the Mauser company is releasing a special-edition 125th anniversary rifle. This extremely limited run will comprise only 25 guns worldwide, with magnum actions chambered in .375 H&H and .416 Rigby and standard actions chambered in .30-’06 Sprg. and 8×57 mm Mauser.

Classic Mauser 98 features abound, including the two-lug bolt and massive claw extractor, combined with a cold-hammer-forged barrel, Model 70-style safety catch and hinged floorplate. This edition also incorporates a number of special touches, including the first color-casehardened finish on a Mauser factory rifle, which is applied to the large-ring receiver, bolt, trigger guard and magazine floorplate. In addition, special engraving can be found across the action, as well as gold highlights on the trigger, bolt handle, magazine and extractor. Completing this exquisite package is a Grade 8 Circassian walnut stock, a handcrafted presentation case and specially made scope rings.
