Our Special Gun-Control VIPs
Back on March 2, 2020, when billionaire Mike Bloomberg was running for the presidency, he was asked at a Fox News town hall meeting: “How do you justify pushing for more gun control when you have an armed security detail that is likely equipped with the same firearms and magazines you seek to ban the common citizen from owning? Does your life matter more than mine or my family’s or these people’s?”
Bloomberg basically replied that his life is more important because he is a very special person. His actual words were: “I probably get 40 or 50 threats every week, okay, and some of them are real. That just happens when you’re the mayor of New York City or you’re very wealthy and, and if you’re campaigning for president of the United States. You get lots of threats … .”
Meanwhile, a story in the Chicago Sun-Times recently showed that Chicago’s Mayor Lori Lightfoot (D) thinks like Bloomberg on this topic. Lightfoot has a special police security detail, Unit 544, which was created about two years ago to protect her. The special unit consists of approximately 71 officers, in addition to the mayor’s existing “separate personal bodyguard detail” of 20 officers.
As former New York City Mayor Bloomberg and Lightfoot live their very protected lives, and as they advocate for keeping guns from law-abiding citizens, the cities they live in are experiencing horrific surges in violent crime; surges that are clearly related to policies they have backed.
