Two homeowners in Joplin, Mo., arrived home to an unpleasant surprise, as they encountered an armed intruder who had allegedly barricaded himself inside their house on Wednesday, July 19, 2023.
According to a press release from the McDonald County Sheriff’s Office, the 62-year-old alleged burglar was inside the house at 9:30 a.m. when the homeowners arrived at the residence. The barricaded burglar, who was armed, fired his handgun at the homeowners, both of whom were armed. The residents each returned fire, striking the burglar in each thigh. The homeowners then disarmed the man and held him at gunpoint until police arrived at the scene.

The intruder was taken to a local hospital and faces charges of burglary, 1st degree assault and armed criminal action. The homeowners are not facing charges. (Ozarks First; McDonald County, Mo.; 7/19/23)
