A home intruder with a prior history of assault and drug use was shot and killed inside a Lady Lakes, Fla., home after he broke in and encountered an armed resident on Monday, Jan. 2, 2023.

At 5:30 p.m., the 34-year-old intruder forced himself through a window, and upon entering the home, he was confronted by the armed homeowner, who shot him. Lake County sheriff’s deputies were called to the scene, and the intruder was pronounced dead upon their arrival. The sheriff’s office declared the incident to be a case of self-defense, and the homeowner is cooperating with the police.

The deceased suspect was known to law enforcement due to an incident in 2022, when the man, who appeared to be drinking at the time, assaulted another man who was with his girlfriend. The assailant fled but was later captured by police, and 1.31 grams of methamphetamine was discovered in his possession. (Villages-News, Lady Lake, Fla., 1/2/23)

Alerted when she saw a strange car drive up and the occupants knock on the door, a 19-year-old woman got a rifle and hid in a bedroom closet. When the men broke through a cellar door and entered the bedroom, she stepped out of the closet, trained the gun on them and ordered them out. They fled.
