TN: THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE UGLY OF THE SPECIAL SESSION

Dear friend,

Gov. Bill “Lousy Lee’s” special session has been nothing short of dramatic. However, in reality, this session was ultimately a colossal waste of your hard-earned tax dollars.

Here’s a look at the good, the bad, and the ugly of the special session.

The Good

Lousy Lee called this special session for one purpose: to pass red flag gun confiscation in the Volunteer State. On this front, he miserably failed.

Gun owners have no one else to thank more than themselves. Your enduring and relentless emails, phone calls, and grassroots pressure made the concept of red flags so impalpable that such legislation made no meaningful progress.

This is a big win! A few months ago, some believed that red flags could become law in Tennessee. Your activism killed the idea completely.

The Bad

While red flag gun confiscation did not pass this session, no pro-gun legislation passed either. One measure, HB7064/SB7020, would have allowed current and retired military and law enforcement, as well as enhanced permit holders, to carry on school property. Nonetheless, this bill failed, with Republicans voting against it. (See the vote here.)

It’s shameful that so-called “pro-gun” Republicans voted against even the mildest measure to make our schools safer.

The Ugly

This special session had no shortage of fireworks. From rowdy protestors to even unruly (so-called) “Representatives” like Justin Jones, this session provided plenty of political theater. It also demonstrated how active the anti-gun, Michael Bloomberg-funded, gun control lobby is.

Gun owners should prepare for a political slugfest when the legislature convenes this coming January. Even more concerning than the Bloomberg gun control cabal, we know Lousy Lee will be gunning to pass red flag gun confiscation next session.

That’s why I’m asking you to take one more action. Please politely rebuke Lousy Lee for his shameful session and urge him to call for substantive solutions to prevent mass shootings, such as ending gun-free zones.
