In 2018, the U.S. Army announced a Sub-Compact Weapon (SCW) trial, which would choose a new submachine gun for use by its personal security detail (PSD) close protection units. The following year, the military announced that it had chosen the B&T USA APC9K Pro, with the U.S. Air Force adopting the same model the following year. B&T USA releases limited editions of its firearms from time-to-time and for 2023, the company will be offering a special, limited-edition, integrally suppressed version of the civilian version of the APC9, the APC9K SD2.

The B&T APC9 is chambered in 9 mm Luger and uses a blowback action with a hydraulic buffer system. It feeds from the same translucent polymer magazines that are used in the company’s MP9, TP9, GHM9 and SPC9 series of firearms. The upper and lower receivers are made from aluminum alloy and have a Type III hard coat anodized finish. A section of M1913 Picatinny rail runs the length of the receiver, and the rifle is supplied with a pair of folding back-up iron sights. The APC9K SD2 has all of B&T’s “Pro” model upgrades, including fully ambidextrous controls (bilateral magazine releases, safety levers, bolt hold-open levers and non-reciprocating folding charging handles) and a replaceable grip that is compatible with AR-15-type designs.

Along with being semi-automatic-only, the APC9K SD2 differs from the Army’s SCW model in that it is integrally suppressed with a scalable suppressor system. It uses a 3″ barrel that is ported and surrounded by an integral suppressor. The suppressor is covered by a unique-to-the-SD2-variant handguard that uses M-Lok slots instead of Picatinny rail sections.

The APC9K SD2 uses a collapsible sliding stock that telescopes to three positions. The stock deploys by simply pulling it to the correct length. A button is pushed to release the stock to collapse it. In this configuration, the rifle has an overall length of 15″ with the stock fully collapsed, 22″ with the stock fully extended and weighs 5.9 lbs. The rifle is supplied with a “Stage 2” suppressor extension, which can be attached for additional sound reduction, which yields an overall weight of 6.3 lbs. and an overall length of 21.5″ when attached.

As a short-barreled rifle (SBR), the APC9K SD2 and its suppressor system fall under the regulations of the National Firearms Act (NFA) and applicable local ordinances. Both rifle and suppressor require their own separate tax stamps. The APC9K SD2 rifle and suppressor system has an MSRP of $3,950.

The APC9K SD2 will also be available in a pistol configuration, without a stock, which will require a single tax stamp for the suppressor system. For more information, visit bt-usa.com.
